Especially in plastic products, reinforced structures should be applied over the surfaces to increase the rigidity of the application, and therefore the feeling and lifetime. Normally one would think of ribs, contours, cored out profiles and other structures. When applying these features many advantages will arise; material and cycle time and thus cost are be saved. Cored out profiles are used not only to save material, except also to improve the mold flow, the risk of shrinkage after solidifying and plastic molding cycle time.
These and other features, should be investigated in an analysis under influence of reaction forces, when included in the design. For this reason strength and bending and torsional stiffness analyses are performed, when regarded relevant for the product, resulting in an optimum strength for cost.
